OpenAI dall-e-2 and dall-e-3 removed from the API 2026-05-12 — use gpt-image models
Pick a non-deprecated image model; the deprecations page lists gpt-image-2.5-sunburst or gpt-image-2.5-flare as replacements for the gpt-image-1 family.

client.images.generate(model="dall-e-3", ...) (the default in most image-generation examples) fails.
Cause
OpenAI deprecated DALL-E snapshots on 2025-11-14 and removed dall-e-2 and dall-e-3 on 2026-05-12. The first-listed replacements were gpt-image-2, gpt-image-1 or gpt-image-1-mini, but gpt-image-1 is shut down 2026-10-23 and gpt-image-1-mini / gpt-image-1.5 / chatgpt-image-latest are removed 2026-12-01.
