Stripe: subscription.current_period_end is undefined on API 2025-03-31.basil+ — periods moved to subscription items
- const end = subscription.current_period_end
+ const end = subscription.items.data[0].current_period_end
With several items, take the item you care about, or Math.min(...subscription.items.data.map(i => i.current_period_end)). In customer.subscription.updated webhooks, item-level changes show up in previous_attributes.items.data[].
Symptom
subscription.current_period_end and subscription.current_period_start come back undefined. After upgrading stripe to v18+, TypeScript no longer has these properties on Stripe.Subscription. Code that shows "renews on …" or checks access expiry breaks.
Cause
In API version 2025-03-31.basil, Stripe removed current_period_start/current_period_end from the Subscription object. They moved to each SubscriptionItem, because items can now have their own billing periods. stripe-node 18.0.0 (2025-04-01) pins 2025-03-31.basil, so upgrading the SDK switches the API version for you.
Verify
Retrieve a test subscription with the new SDK and confirm items.data[0].current_period_end is a Unix timestamp. tsc should no longer reference the subscription-level fields.
