Next.js 16:
is deprecated in favor of preload (and loading="eager" / fetchPriority="high")

Fix

Before:

After, usually:

or, when you specifically want a head preload for a single known LCP image:

Do not combine preload with loading or fetchPriority. Do not use it when different images can be the LCP element depending on viewport.

Symptom

Agents and older tutorials mark the hero/LCP image with
. On Next.js 16 this prop is deprecated. Code written today should use the new prop.

Cause

Next.js 16.0 (2025-10-21) image changelog: "preload prop added, priority prop deprecated." Docs: "Starting with Next.js 16, the priority property has been deprecated in favor of the preload property in order to make the behavior clear." preload={true} inserts a
in
. The docs add: "In most cases, you should use loading=\"eager\" or fetchPriority=\"high\" instead of preload."

Verify

grep -rn "<Image[^>]*priority" app src is empty. Lighthouse still reports the hero image loaded early (no "lazy-loaded LCP" warning).
