Stripe.js clover: stripe.redirectToCheckout is removed — redirect to the Checkout Session's url instead
Return the session URL from the server and do a normal redirect:
// server
const session = await stripe.checkout.sessions.create({ mode: "payment", line_items, success_url, cancel_url })
return Response.json({ url: session.url })
- await stripe.redirectToCheckout({ sessionId })
+ window.location.href = url
Or redirect server-side (redirect(session.url!) in a Server Action / 303 from a route handler). Client-only Checkout integrations (no server) should move to Payment Links or Buy Buttons.
Symptom
The classic pattern of creating a Checkout Session on the server, returning session.id, then calling stripe.redirectToCheckout({ sessionId }) in the browser fails. On @stripe/stripe-js v8+, TypeScript reports that redirectToCheckout doesn't exist.
Cause
Stripe's Clover release (2025-09-30) removed stripe.redirectToCheckout from Stripe.js, for both client-only and client-and-server integrations. @stripe/stripe-js v8.0.0 (2025-10-01) shipped "[breaking] Remove types for redirectToCheckout".
Verify
Clicking checkout lands on checkout.stripe.com/c/pay/cs_.... grep -rn redirectToCheckout should be empty.
