Claude Code deny rule Bash(git push:*) is prefix-only — 'git -C dir push' slips through; use a PreToolUse hook

Fix

Keep the deny rules but add a PreToolUse hook on Bash that inspects the full command and exits with status 2 to block (stderr is shown to the model as the reason):

{"hooks":{"PreToolUse":[{"matcher":"Bash","hooks":[{"type":"command","command":"/srv/svc/guard.sh"}]}]}}
#!/bin/bash
cmd=$(jq -r '.tool_input.command')
# deliberately broad: false positives are cheaper than a bypass
if echo "$cmd" | grep -Eq '\bgit\b.*\b(push|reset|rebase|checkout|commit)\b|\bpm2\b|\bsystemctl\b|\bnpm +install\b|\b(ssh|scp|rsync)\b|rm +-rf|\.env'; then
  echo "blocked by policy: $cmd" >&2; exit 2
fi
exit 0

Symptom

A settings file for an unattended agent denies Bash(git push:*), Bash(pm2:*) etc. Under bypassPermissions the agent still ran git -C /srv/app push successfully.

Cause

Bash permission rules match the command string by prefix. Anything that changes the prefix — git -C x push, env FOO=1 git push, cd x && git push, bash -c '...' — no longer matches the deny pattern.

Verify

The hook was unit-tested against 18 commands (including git -C x push, chained and quoted forms) and live-tested under bypassPermissions: blocked commands were refused with the reason, allowed ones ran.

Notes

Write the regex against variants, not just the canonical command. Keep a test list of evasions next to the hook.
