Clerk @clerk/nextjs v6+: auth() and clerkClient() are async — `const { userId } = auth()` must be `await auth()`

Symptom

Code such as const { userId } = auth(), auth().protect() or clerkClient().users.getUser(id) produces userId undefined or .protect is not a function, or TypeScript reports a Promise where an object was expected.

Cause

@clerk/nextjs 6.0.0 (2024-10-23) made auth() asynchronous to match Next.js 15's async dynamic APIs. clerkClient() also became async, and auth().protect() became auth.protect(). v6 also stopped <ClerkProvider> from forcing the whole app into dynamic rendering. Pass dynamic to get the old behavior.

Verify

tsc --noEmit passes, and a protected Server Component redirects signed-out users.
