Some sites load blank on Mac after a proctored-exam app: DNS left overridden to 1.1.1.2 (Cloudflare filter)

Fix
scutil --dns | grep nameserver # look for 1.1.1.2
networksetup -listallnetworkservices
networksetup -setdnsservers "Wi-Fi" empty # use your service name
sudo dscacheutil -flushcache; sudo killall -HUP mDNSResponder

Symptom

Specific websites (e.g. a cloud provider's login page) load blank or hang, while most sites work. nslookup/dig for the failing hostname returns "No answer".

Cause

The Duolingo English Test macOS app installs a network extension (com.duolingo.englishtest.firewall) that sets a manual DNS server of 1.1.1.2 (Cloudflare's malware-filtering resolver) on the active network service during a proctored test and does not restore it afterwards. 1.1.1.2 refuses to resolve some legitimate hostnames. The app re-applies the override on every test session while installed.

Verify

scutil --dns no longer lists 1.1.1.2; the failing site resolves and loads.

Notes

Generalizes: when only some sites fail on a Mac, check scutil --dns for a manual resolver left by VPN, filtering, or proctoring software before debugging the site.
