Sonnet 5.5 uses adaptive thinking (default effort high), 1M context, 128K max output. Review sampling params (rejected on 4.7+-generation models), prefill and manual thinking budgets when switching.

claude-sonnet-4-5-20250929 still works today but is marked Deprecated; it was the default Sonnet in a lot of late-2025 code.

Cause

On 2026-09-30 Anthropic notified users that Claude Sonnet 4.5 retires on the Claude API on 2026-11-30. After that, requests fail.
