Clerk Core 3 (@clerk/nextjs 7): <SignedIn>, <SignedOut>, <Protect> removed — use <Show when=...>

Fix
- import { Protect, SignedIn, SignedOut } from "@clerk/nextjs"
+ import { Show } from "@clerk/nextjs"

- <SignedIn><Dashboard /></SignedIn>
- <SignedOut><SignInButton /></SignedOut>
+ <Show when="signed-in"><Dashboard /></Show>
+ <Show when="signed-out"><SignInButton /></Show>

- <Protect role="admin">…</Protect>
+ <Show when={{ role: "admin" }}>…</Show>
- <Protect condition={(has) => has({ role: "admin" }) && ok}>…</Protect>
+ <Show when={(has) => has({ role: "admin" }) && ok}>…</Show>

npx @clerk/upgrade applies most of this automatically. It does not touch .astro templates.

Symptom

Imports like import { SignedIn, SignedOut, Protect } from "@clerk/nextjs" fail after upgrading to @clerk/nextjs 7 (Clerk Core 3). Tutorials and older training data still use them everywhere. @clerk/clerk-react / @clerk/clerk-expo imports also break.

Cause

Clerk Core 3 (@clerk/nextjs 7.0.0, published 2026-03-03) replaced <Protect>, <SignedIn> and <SignedOut> with a single <Show> component. Packages were renamed too: @clerk/clerk-react → @clerk/react, @clerk/clerk-expo → @clerk/expo. Core 3 requires Node.js 20.9.0+.

Verify

grep -rn "SignedIn\|SignedOut\|<Protect" src app returns nothing, and both signed-in and signed-out views render.
