React 19.2 changed useId output from :r:/«r» to _r_ — tests and selectors matching generated IDs break
Never hard-code the generated format. Read the ID from the rendered element or the hook and use it directly:
const id = useId();
<label htmlFor={id}>Name</label><input id={id} />
// tests: getByLabelText('Name') instead of matching ':r0:'
Update snapshots once (vitest -u / jest -u) after confirming the only diff is the ID format. Server and client must run the same React version, or hydration IDs mismatch.
Symptom
After upgrading to React 19.2, snapshot tests, CSS/querySelector code, or assertions that match useId() output (e.g. :r0: or «r0») fail; IDs now use the _r_ prefix.
Cause
React 19.2 (2025-10-01): "we're updating the default useId prefix from :r: (19.0.0) or «r» (19.1.0) to _r_", so IDs are valid for view-transition-name and XML 1.0 names. Code written against older output (including the common CSS.escape workaround for colons) is now matching the wrong format.
Verify
Tests pass after snapshot update; document.getElementById(id) works without CSS.escape.
