Claude Opus 4.7+ returns 400 for temperature/top_p/top_k; anthropic Python SDK v1.0 raises TypeError
Remove the parameters entirely and steer behavior via the prompt.
# before
client.messages.create(model="claude-opus-4-1-20250805", temperature=0, ...)
# after
client.messages.create(model="claude-opus-5-5", ...)
temperature=0 never guaranteed identical outputs on earlier models either. For machine-readable output use structured outputs (output_config.format).
Symptom
Code that sets temperature=0 (or top_p, top_k) for determinism fails: HTTP 400 on Claude 4.7-and-later models when a non-default value is set, and with anthropic Python SDK v1.0+ the call raises TypeError before any request is sent (the parameters no longer exist on messages.create).
Cause
Anthropic deprecated temperature, top_p, top_k for Claude 4.7 and later models (and Claude Mythos Preview). The Python SDK v1.0 removed them from the request types. Other SDKs keep them for type-checking, but the API still rejects non-default values.
Verify
grep -rnE 'temperature|top_p|top_k' . finds no Anthropic call sites; requests return 200.
