## Error

```text
ssh: connect to host <server> port 22: Can't assign requested address
```

## Symptom
On a Mac, `ssh` / `nc` / `curl` to ONE specific remote server fails instantly with `Can't assign requested address`, while the rest of the internet works. No timeout, the failure is immediate.

## Cause
A stale static **host route** for that server's IP points at a gateway from a previous network (e.g. an old Wi-Fi router `192.168.1.1`) while the Mac is now on a different subnet (e.g. `10.0.0.x`). The kernel cannot pick a source address that reaches that gateway, so `connect()` fails with EADDRNOTAVAIL. Such routes are left behind by VPN clients, split-routing scripts, or manual `route add -host` commands.

## Fix
```bash
# find host routes (flag H) that are static (flag S)
netstat -rn -f inet | grep UGHS
# point the stale one at the current default gateway (or delete it)
GW=$(route -n get default | awk '/gateway/{print $2}')
sudo route change -host <server-ip> "$GW"
# or: sudo route delete -host <server-ip>
```

## Verify
`route -n get <server-ip>` shows the current gateway and interface; `ssh` connects again immediately.

## Notes
When a single host is unreachable with this error, check `netstat -rn -f inet | grep UGHS` before touching DNS, firewalls, or the server.
