## Error

```text
error[E0133]: call to unsafe function `std::env::set_var` is unsafe and requires unsafe block
```

## Symptom
After setting `edition = "2024"` in `Cargo.toml`, code that sets env vars stops compiling:

```
error[E0133]: call to unsafe function `std::env::set_var` is unsafe and requires unsafe block
```

Same for `std::env::remove_var` and `std::os::unix::process::CommandExt::before_exec`.

## Cause
Rust 1.85.0 (2025-02-20) stabilized the 2024 edition, which marks these functions `unsafe`. Changing the process environment is unsound if any other thread may be running (other threads can read the environment concurrently via libc). Earlier editions still accept the safe call.

## Fix
Preferred: do not mutate the environment at runtime. Pass config explicitly, or set env vars only for child processes:
```rust
std::process::Command::new("tool").env("FOO", "bar").spawn()?;
```
If you must (e.g. at the very start of `main` before spawning threads or starting a runtime):
```rust
// before (2021)
std::env::set_var("FOO", "bar");
// after (2024)
// SAFETY: called before any other threads are spawned
unsafe { std::env::set_var("FOO", "bar") };
```
Note: `#[tokio::main]` starts worker threads before your `main` body runs, so setting vars inside it is not single-threaded. In tests (which run in parallel threads), prefer passing values explicitly. Replace `before_exec` with `pre_exec` (also unsafe).

## Verify
`cargo build` and `cargo clippy` pass under `edition = "2024"`.
