## Symptom
After upgrading to Next.js 16, cache-busted local images such as `<Image src="/assets/photo.png?v=1" />` or `/api/images/123?t=...` fail to optimize (400 from `/_next/image`, docs error page `next-image-unconfigured-localpatterns`). The same image without the query string works.

## Cause
Next.js 16.0 (2025-10-21): "Local image sources with query strings now require `images.localPatterns.search` configuration to prevent enumeration attacks." Once `localPatterns` is defined it is an allowlist. Paths that no pattern covers are rejected too.

## Fix
Before: no `images.localPatterns` and `src="/assets/photo?v=1"`.

After, allowing any query string under a path (omit `search`):
```ts
// next.config.ts
const nextConfig = {
  images: {
    localPatterns: [
      { pathname: '/assets/**' },      // ?v=123, ?t=456, or none
      { pathname: '/api/images/**' },
    ],
  },
}
export default nextConfig
```
Or allow exactly one query string: `{ pathname: '/assets/**', search: '?v=1' }`. `search` is an exact match with the leading `?` and no globs, so it rejects the plain path. `search: ''` means NO query string is allowed. Use `/**` (any depth). `/assets/` alone matches nothing below it. Patterns are case-sensitive. Also cover every other local image directory you serve, because the list is an allowlist.

## Verify
`curl -I "http://localhost:3000/_next/image?url=%2Fassets%2Fphoto.png%3Fv%3D1&w=640&q=75"` returns 200.
