## Symptom
Code written for NextAuth v4 (`import { getServerSession } from "next-auth/next"`, `getServerSession(authOptions)`, `getToken({ req })` from `next-auth/jwt`, `export { default } from "next-auth/middleware"`) does not fit a project on `next-auth@5` (Auth.js). The v5 guide says `next-auth/next` and `next-auth/middleware` are replaced.

## Cause
NextAuth v5 is a rewrite on `@auth/core`. Instead of passing `authOptions` around, you call `NextAuth()` once in a root config file. It returns `{ handlers, auth, signIn, signOut }`, and that one `auth()` function replaces `getServerSession`, `getToken`, `withAuth` and `useSession` on the server. The minimum Next.js version is 14.0.

Pages Router: `await auth(req, res)` in API routes, `await auth(context)` in getServerSideProps. Passing `res` rotates the session expiry.

## Verify
Run `grep -rn "getServerSession\|next-auth/next\|next-auth/jwt" src app pages`; it should return nothing. Then sign in and check that `await auth()` in a Server Component returns the session.
