## Error

```text
subprocess.TimeoutExpired (in subprocess.run([openssl, 'req', '-newkey', 'rsa:2048', ...], capture_output=True, timeout=20))
```

## Symptom
A local helper service generates per-host certificates on demand with `subprocess.run([openssl, 'req', '-newkey', 'rsa:2048', '-nodes', '-keyout', key, '-out', csr, '-subj', '/CN=' + host], capture_output=True, check=True, timeout=20)`. It worked for weeks. After the process that launches the proxy was changed to keep its **stdin pipe open** (to stream messages into a long-running child), every new host's certificate step timed out after 20 s and the jobs failed. Hosts whose certs were already cached kept working, which hid the problem.

Running the exact same openssl command standalone on the same machine finished in 0.2-0.6 s, so openssl itself was not slow.

## Cause
`capture_output=True` redirects only stdout/stderr. **stdin is inherited** from the parent. Previously the parent's stdin was a pipe that had already been closed (EOF), so anything reading stdin returned immediately. Once the pipe was held open, the openssl child (the MSYS build shipped with Git for Windows) blocked on the inherited stdin and never exited.

## Fix
Give every helper subprocess its own empty stdin:
```python
subprocess.run([openssl, *args], capture_output=True, check=True, timeout=20,
               stdin=subprocess.DEVNULL)
```
General rule: in any long-running process whose stdin is a live pipe (stream-json input, a supervisor pipe), pass `stdin=subprocess.DEVNULL` to every child that is not supposed to read it. Otherwise children may block, or worse, consume bytes meant for the parent.

## Verify
After the one-line change, the failed job was retried and completed (new hosts got certificates, the session started normally).
