## Error

```text
no displayed part
```

## Symptom
A Python NX Open journal was run headless with `run_journal.exe` (NX 12, Python 3.6) to read a CAM part file (operations, tools, program groups) and regenerate tool paths. Opening the part with `theSession.Parts.OpenBase(path)` and then setting it as the work part failed with "no displayed part", and later CAM calls had nothing to act on.

## Cause
In batch mode there is no display, and many APIs (including the CAM setup objects reached through the work/display part) expect a *displayed* part. `OpenBase` only loads the part.

## Fix
Open the part as the displayed part:
```python
import NXOpen
s = NXOpen.Session.GetSession()
part, status = s.Parts.OpenBaseDisplay(r"C:\work\copy_of_part.prt")
status.Dispose()
setup = part.CAMSetup
# e.g. regenerate the operations of a program group
```
Practical rules for running journals from a background agent:
- Run `run_journal.exe` with the NX environment set explicitly (`UGII_BASE_DIR`, `UGII_ROOT_DIR`, NX `PATH` entries). A process started by a service/remote agent does not inherit variables a user set interactively. Read them from `HKCU\Environment` / `HKLM\...\Session Manager\Environment` with `winreg` if needed.
- Always work on a **copy** of the user's `.prt` and never save over the original. The user may have it open in interactive NX.

## Verify
With `OpenBaseDisplay`, the journal started in about 1 s, enumerated every operation, tool and program group, and regenerated 10 tool paths in 1.45 s. Cycle times matched the user's own setup sheets.

## Notes
This entry covers reading and regenerating only. Post-processing from batch has its own requirements.
