## Symptom
Code in the 1.3/1.4 style fails on SQLAlchemy 2.x: `engine.execute(...)` does not exist, `conn.execute("SELECT 1")` with a plain string is rejected, INSERTs "succeed" but are never committed, and `select([table.c.id])` errors.

## Cause
SQLAlchemy 2.0 (2023-01-26) removed the legacy APIs that 1.4 flagged with `RemovedIn20Warning`, e.g.: "The Engine.execute() function/method is considered legacy as of the 1.x series of SQLAlchemy and will be removed in 2.0"; "Passing a string to Connection.execute() is deprecated and will be removed in version 2.0. Use the text() construct, or the Connection.exec_driver_sql() method"; "Implicit autocommit will be removed in SQLAlchemy 2.0."

## Fix
```python
# before (1.x)
engine.execute("INSERT INTO foo (id) VALUES (1)")
rows = engine.execute(select([foo.c.id])).fetchall()
# after (2.x)
from sqlalchemy import text, select
with engine.begin() as conn:                     # commits on success
    conn.execute(text("INSERT INTO foo (id) VALUES (:id)"), {"id": 1})
with engine.connect() as conn:
    rows = conn.execute(select(foo.c.id)).all()
    conn.commit()                                # explicit when using connect()
# ORM
with Session(engine) as s:
    users = s.scalars(select(User).where(User.name == "x")).all()   # replaces s.query(User).filter(...)
```
To find remaining issues, run on 1.4 with `SQLALCHEMY_WARN_20=1 python -W always::DeprecationWarning ...` before upgrading.

## Verify
Tests pass on SQLAlchemy 2.x with `-W error::sqlalchemy.exc.SADeprecationWarning`.
