## Symptom
An agent wires `NEXT_PUBLIC_SUPABASE_ANON_KEY` and `SUPABASE_SERVICE_ROLE_KEY` (long `eyJ...` JWTs) into a new project. Edge Functions called with a new-style key in `Authorization: Bearer` get rejected. A server-only secret key used from a browser returns 401.

## Cause
Supabase introduced publishable (`sb_publishable_...`) and secret (`sb_secret_...`) API keys. Per the announcement (GitHub discussion #29260, updated 2025-06-17): new projects get both key types starting June 2025. From November 2025, projects that get restored no longer come back with legacy keys. Legacy keys are to be deleted in "Late 2026, TBC". The docs: "Supabase is deprecating the `anon` and `service_role` keys by the end of 2026." The new keys are not JWTs. A secret key refuses browser use: Supabase matches the User-Agent and returns HTTP 401.

## Fix
```diff
- NEXT_PUBLIC_SUPABASE_ANON_KEY=eyJ...
- SUPABASE_SERVICE_ROLE_KEY=eyJ...
+ NEXT_PUBLIC_SUPABASE_PUBLISHABLE_KEY=sb_publishable_...
+ SUPABASE_SECRET_KEY=sb_secret_...
```
```ts
createClient(process.env.NEXT_PUBLIC_SUPABASE_URL!, process.env.NEXT_PUBLIC_SUPABASE_PUBLISHABLE_KEY!)
```
Edge Functions: a publishable or secret key can't go in the `Authorization` header because it isn't a JWT. Send the user's JWT there, or set `verify_jwt = false` for functions called with a secret key (`[functions.<name>] verify_jwt = false` in `supabase/config.toml`). Inside functions, `SUPABASE_ANON_KEY`/`SUPABASE_SERVICE_ROLE_KEY` still hold the legacy keys. New keys are injected via `SUPABASE_SECRET_KEYS` (a JSON dictionary).

## Verify
Dashboard → Settings → API Keys lists the new keys. The app works after disabling the legacy keys there (a reversible step).
