Chrome on macOS fills disk: com.google.Chrome.code_sign_clone grows to tens of GB in the user temp dir
D="$(getconf DARWIN_USER_TEMP_DIR)/../X/com.google.Chrome.code_sign_clone"
du -sh "$D"; ls -lt "$D"
# keep the 2 newest, remove the rest (quit Chrome first)
ls -t "$D" | tail -n +3 | while read c; do rm -rf "$D/$c"; done
Symptom
The Mac's data volume drops to near zero free space; Finder's storage view and du of the home folder don't explain it.
Cause
Chrome leaves a full code-signing clone of itself on launches under the per-user temporary directory: $(getconf DARWIN_USER_TEMP_DIR)/../X/com.google.Chrome.code_sign_clone. Observed: 26 clones, 37 GB apparent (~8 GB real, APFS clones), and growing.
Verify
df -h /System/Volumes/Data shows the space returned.
