## Error

```text
SyntaxError [ERR_UNSUPPORTED_TYPESCRIPT_SYNTAX]: TypeScript enum is not supported in strip-only mode
```

## Symptom
Running a `.ts` file directly with `node file.ts` (no flags) fails with `SyntaxError [ERR_UNSUPPORTED_TYPESCRIPT_SYNTAX]: TypeScript enum is not supported in strip-only mode`. Same failure class for `namespace` with runtime code, constructor parameter properties (`constructor(private x: number)`), and `import x = require()` aliases; decorators give a parser error. It can also appear unexpectedly in CI/tests after a Node upgrade because Node now strips `.ts` before an older loader (ts-node, esbuild-register) gets a chance.

## Cause
Node's built-in TypeScript support only *erases* types. Type stripping became default (unflagged) in v23.6.0 / v22.18.0, stopped warning in v24.3.0, and was marked stable in v25.2.0 / v24.12.0. Syntax that needs code generation is rejected. The escape hatch `--experimental-transform-types` was **removed in Node 26.0.0 (2026-05-05)**, so on Node 26 there is no flag that makes enums work.

## Fix
Replace non-erasable syntax:
```ts
// Before
enum Colour { Red, Blue }
// After
export const Colour = { Red: 0, Blue: 1 } as const;
export type Colour = (typeof Colour)[keyof typeof Colour];
```
```ts
// Before
class P { constructor(private x: number) {} }
// After
class P { private x: number; constructor(x: number) { this.x = x; } }
```
Make `tsc` catch it up front (TS 5.8+), per the Node docs:
```json
{ "compilerOptions": { "target": "esnext", "module": "nodenext", "noEmit": true,
  "rewriteRelativeImportExtensions": true, "erasableSyntaxOnly": true, "verbatimModuleSyntax": true } }
```
If you must keep enums: compile with `tsc`, or run with `tsx`. On Node 22–25 only, `node --experimental-transform-types file.ts` still works.

## Verify
`npx tsc --noEmit` reports no TS1294 errors, and `node file.ts` runs.
