## Error

```text
⨯ Error: Failed to load external module sharp-b2c7210515aeb6cc: Error [ERR_MODULE_NOT_FOUND]: Cannot find package 'sharp-b2c7210515aeb6cc' imported from /srv/app/.next/server/chunks/[turbopack]_runtime.js
```

## Symptom
A Next.js 16 app built with Turbopack on one machine (macOS) and shipped as a `.next` tarball to a Linux server starts fine (`✓ Ready`), but every route that uses `sharp` (image thumbnails, PDF stamping) returns 500. The pm2 error log shows:

```
⨯ Error: Failed to load external module sharp-<hash>: Error [ERR_MODULE_NOT_FOUND]: Cannot find package 'sharp-<hash>' imported from .../.next/server/chunks/[turbopack]_runtime.js
```

## Cause
Turbopack externalizes `sharp` under an alias `sharp-<hash>` and resolves it through a symlink `.next/node_modules/sharp-<hash>`. The build writes that symlink **relative to the build machine's repo folder name** (e.g. `../../../my-repo-folder/node_modules/sharp`). On the server the app lives in a differently named directory, so the link dangles. The same breakage happens when:
- `bsdtar`/`tar --exclude './node_modules'` (unanchored) also drops `.next/node_modules`;
- `cp -c -R .next` (APFS clone) copies the relative link into a scratch dir where it no longer resolves;
- building from a different worktree changes the hash.

## Fix
After unpacking `.next` on the server:
```bash
cd /srv/app
ls .next/node_modules            # find sharp-<hash>
ln -sfn ../../node_modules/sharp .next/node_modules/sharp-<hash>
pm2 restart app                  # required: the failed import is cached in-process
```
Ship with `COPYFILE_DISABLE=1 tar czf - ...` to avoid AppleDouble `._*` files, and anchor excludes so only the top-level `node_modules` is skipped.

## Verify
`curl -o /dev/null -w '%{http_code}'` an image route and a PDF route that use sharp; both returned 200 after relinking + restart. The fix was applied repeatedly across several deployments of the same codebase.

## Notes
Relinking without restarting is not enough — the process keeps the cached failed module resolution.
