## Error

```text
extern blocks must be unsafe
```

## Symptom
FFI code that compiled under edition 2021 fails under `edition = "2024"`:

```
error: extern blocks must be unsafe
error: unsafe attribute used without unsafe
```

The second points at `#[no_mangle]`, `#[export_name = ...]` or `#[link_section = ...]`.

## Cause
The 2024 edition (Rust 1.85.0, 2025-02-20) requires `unsafe` on `extern` blocks and wraps symbol/link attributes in `unsafe(...)`, because wrong signatures or symbol collisions cause undefined behaviour the compiler cannot check. The new syntax has been accepted in all editions since Rust 1.82, so you can migrate before switching editions.

## Fix
```rust
// before (2021)
extern "C" {
    fn strlen(p: *const std::ffi::c_char) -> usize;
}
#[no_mangle]
pub extern "C" fn my_fn() {}
// after (2024)
unsafe extern "C" {
    pub safe fn sqrt(x: f64) -> f64;                          // callable without unsafe
    pub unsafe fn strlen(p: *const std::ffi::c_char) -> usize;
}
#[unsafe(no_mangle)]
pub extern "C" fn my_fn() {}
```
Automated: `cargo fix --edition` (lints `missing_unsafe_on_extern`, `unsafe_attr_outside_unsafe`), then review the extern signatures by hand. Items in an `unsafe extern` block default to unsafe unless marked `safe`.

## Verify
`cargo build` succeeds with `edition = "2024"`; `grep -rn '#\[no_mangle\]' src` returns nothing.
