SyntaxError: The requested module 'vite' does not provide an export named 'splitVendorChunk' — removed in Vite 7

SyntaxError: The requested module 'vite' does not provide an export named 'splitVendorChunk'
Fix

If your config uses it, delete the plugin and chunk manually.

Before:

import { defineConfig, splitVendorChunkPlugin } from 'vite'
export default defineConfig({ plugins: [splitVendorChunkPlugin()] })

After (Vite 7, Rollup):

import { defineConfig } from 'vite'
export default defineConfig({
  build: { rollupOptions: { output: {
    manualChunks: (id) => (id.includes('node_modules') ? 'vendor' : undefined),
  } } },
})

After (Vite 8, Rolldown; function-form manualChunks is deprecated there):

export default defineConfig({
  build: { rolldownOptions: { output: {
    codeSplitting: { groups: [{ test: /node_modules/, name: 'vendor' }] },
  } } },
})

If a dependency imports it (check the stack-trace path): upgrade that tool to a Vite-7-compatible major (electron-vite v4+ supports Vite 7) or keep Vite at the version the tool supports; remove any overrides/resolutions that force a newer Vite. npm ls vite shows who pulls which version.

Symptom

After upgrading to Vite 7, loading the config fails:

failed to load config from .../electron.vite.config.ts
SyntaxError: The requested module 'vite' does not provide an export named 'splitVendorChunk'

(or ... named 'splitVendorChunkPlugin'). It comes either from your own vite.config (import { splitVendorChunkPlugin } from 'vite') or from a wrapper that re-exports it, e.g. electron-vite 3.x dist/index.mjs.

Cause

splitVendorChunkPlugin was deprecated in Vite 5.2.7 and removed in Vite 7.0 (released 2025-06-24) along with other deprecated features. Wrappers built for Vite 5/6 still import it.

Verify

vite build loads the config and emits a separate vendor chunk in dist/assets.
