## Symptom
After upgrading to pnpm 11, settings that used to work silently stop applying: `overrides`/`patchedDependencies`/`onlyBuiltDependencies` in `package.json` → `"pnpm": {...}`, or `.npmrc` lines like `shamefully-hoist=true`, `node-linker=hoisted`, `auto-install-peers=false`, `minimum-release-age=...`. No error is printed.

## Cause
pnpm 11.0.0 (2026-04-28):
- "pnpm no longer reads settings from the `pnpm` field of `package.json`."
- "Only auth and registry settings are read from `.npmrc` files." Everything else must live in `pnpm-workspace.yaml` (project) or the new global `config.yaml` (user).

## Fix
Before:

```json
// package.json
{ "pnpm": { "overrides": { "lodash": "^4.17.21" } } }
```
```ini
# .npmrc
node-linker=hoisted
//registry.npmjs.org/:_authToken=${NPM_TOKEN}
```

After:

```yaml
# pnpm-workspace.yaml (create it even in a single-package repo)
nodeLinker: hoisted
overrides:
  lodash: ^4.17.21
```
```ini
# .npmrc — auth/registry only
//registry.npmjs.org/:_authToken=${NPM_TOKEN}
```

Settings use camelCase keys in YAML. For per-user settings use `pnpm config set --location=user <key> <value>` (writes the global `config.yaml`).

## Verify
`pnpm config get nodeLinker` (or the setting you moved) returns your value; re-run `pnpm install` and confirm behaviour (e.g. flat `node_modules` with hoisted linker).
