## Symptom
Instructions like `brew install --cask --no-quarantine someapp` print deprecation warnings, and some casks for unsigned apps stop installing.

## Cause
Homebrew 5.0.0 (2025-11-12): "`--no-quarantine` and `--quarantine` flags have been deprecated as Homebrew does not wish to easily provide circumvention to macOS security features." Casks without codesigning are deprecated, and Homebrew said it would disable all Homebrew/homebrew-cask casks that fail Gatekeeper checks in September 2026.

## Fix
Install normally (`brew install --cask someapp`) and let macOS Gatekeeper evaluate it. Prefer signed/notarized releases or ask the vendor to notarize. For your own apps, sign with a Developer ID and notarize with `xcrun notarytool` so the cask passes Gatekeeper. Do not script around quarantine on users' machines.

## Verify
`spctl --assess --type execute -v /Applications/SomeApp.app` reports `accepted`.
