## Error

```text
ModuleNotFoundError: No module named 'cgi'
```

## Symptom
Importing a package (or your own code) on Python 3.13+ fails at import time:

```
  File ".../cherrypy/lib/httputil.py", line 15
    from cgi import parse_header
ModuleNotFoundError: No module named 'cgi'
```

The failing import is often inside a dependency (CherryPy, bottle, requests_ftp, ete3, etc.), not your code.

## Cause
`cgi` and `cgitb` were deprecated in 3.11 and **removed in Python 3.13** (released 2024-10-07) as part of PEP 594 "dead batteries". 3.12 is the last version that ships them.

## Fix
1. Upgrade the dependency that imports `cgi` (most maintained projects removed it during 2024; e.g. CherryPy merged "Stop using the cgi stdlib module").
2. If it is your code, replace per the official guidance:

```python
# before
import cgi
form = cgi.FieldStorage()                 # GET/HEAD
ctype, params = cgi.parse_header(h)
# after
from urllib.parse import parse_qsl, parse_qs
pairs = parse_qsl(query_string)           # GET/HEAD
from email.message import Message
m = Message(); m['content-type'] = h
ctype, params = m.get_content_type(), dict(m.get_params()[1:])
# POST/PUT multipart: use email.message or the `multipart` package from PyPI
```

3. Stop-gap only: `pip install legacy-cgi` (a copy of the old module, not maintained by the core team).

## Verify
`python -c "import sys; print(sys.version)"` shows 3.13+, and `python -c "import yourpkg"` imports cleanly. `grep -rn "import cgi\|from cgi" .venv/lib/python3.1*/site-packages` finds remaining users.
