## Error

```text
The datasource property `url` is no longer supported in schema files.
```

## Symptom
After upgrading to Prisma 7 (or after the Prisma VS Code extension auto-updated to 7.x), `prisma generate` / `prisma migrate` / the editor reports a P1012 schema validation error:

```
error: The datasource property `url` is no longer supported in schema files. Move connection URLs for Migrate to `prisma.config.ts` and pass either `adapter` for a direct database connection or `accelerateUrl` for Accelerate to the `PrismaClient` constructor. See https://pris.ly/d/config-datasource and https://pris.ly/d/prisma7-client-config
```

The wrong assumption: `url = env("DATABASE_URL")` belongs in the `datasource` block of `schema.prisma` (true through Prisma 6).

## Cause
Prisma ORM 7.0.0 (2025-11-19) moved `datasource.url` and `shadowDatabaseUrl` out of the schema into `prisma.config.ts`, removed `directUrl`, and made `prisma.config.ts` required for introspection and migration. The `prisma` key in `package.json` (schema path, seed) was removed too. The CLI now uses the config file's `url` for migrations; the runtime client gets its connection through a driver adapter instead.

## Fix
Before (`prisma/schema.prisma`):
```prisma
datasource db {
  provider  = "postgresql"
  url       = env("DATABASE_URL")
  directUrl = env("DIRECT_URL")
}
```
After:
```prisma
datasource db {
  provider = "postgresql"
}
```
`prisma.config.ts` at the project root (next to package.json):
```ts
import 'dotenv/config'
import { defineConfig, env } from 'prisma/config'
export default defineConfig({
  schema: 'prisma/schema.prisma',
  migrations: { path: 'prisma/migrations' },
  datasource: {
    // if you used directUrl for migrations, put the DIRECT connection string here
    url: env('DATABASE_URL'),
  },
})
```
Then pass a driver adapter to `PrismaClient` at runtime (see the separate adapter entry). Remove `url`, `directUrl` and `shadowDatabaseUrl` from the schema — any one of them left behind triggers the same error.

If the project is intentionally still on Prisma 6 and only the editor complains: the Prisma VS Code extension 7.x validates with v7 rules; pin the extension to a 6.x version (maintainer answer in prisma/orm#28573).

## Verify
`npx prisma validate` and `npx prisma generate` succeed; `npx prisma migrate status` connects using the URL from `prisma.config.ts`.
