Wrangler v4: wrangler kv / r2 object commands hit local storage by default — add --remote to touch production
# before (v3: remote by default)
wrangler kv key put --binding=CONFIG flag on
wrangler r2 object get my-bucket/report.csv --file=report.csv
# after (v4)
wrangler kv key put --binding=CONFIG flag on --remote
wrangler r2 object get my-bucket/report.csv --file=report.csv --remote
The old colon forms (wrangler kv:key put) were removed too — use the space-separated subcommands. Omit --remote deliberately when seeding local dev data for wrangler dev.
Symptom
wrangler kv key put ... "succeeds" but the deployed Worker never sees the value; wrangler kv key get / kv key list / r2 object get return nothing or stale local data even though production has data. Scripts written for Wrangler v3 seed or read production data and silently operate on the local Miniflare store instead.
Cause
Wrangler v4.0.0 (2025-03-13): "All commands now run in local mode by default." KV commands (kv key get/put/delete/list, kv bulk put/delete) and R2 commands (r2 object get/put/delete) "will need to add the --remote flag in order to replicate previous behavior." Also in v4: new KV namespaces are no longer prefixed with the Worker name.
Verify
wrangler kv key get --binding=CONFIG flag --remote returns the value, and the deployed Worker reads it.
