## Error

```text
Cannot find name 'process'. Do you need to install type definitions for node?
```

## Symptom
After upgrading to TypeScript 6.0 or 7.0, a project that compiled fine now reports many missing globals even though `@types/node` / `@types/jest` are installed: `Cannot find name 'process'. Do you need to install type definitions for node?`, `Cannot find name 'describe'. Do you need to install type definitions for a test runner?`, and `Cannot find module '...' or its corresponding type declarations.` for `fs`/`path`.

## Cause
TypeScript 6.0 (2026-03-23) changed the default of `compilerOptions.types` from "every package in `node_modules/@types`" to `[]` (an empty array). TypeScript 7.0 (2026-07-08) keeps that default. Ambient globals from `@types/*` are no longer pulled in automatically.

## Fix
List the global type packages you actually use:
```diff
{
  "compilerOptions": {
+   "types": ["node", "jest"]
  }
}
```
(e.g. `"vitest/globals"`, `"bun"`, `"vite/client"` as needed). `"types": ["*"]` restores the 5.9 behaviour, but the TypeScript team recommends an explicit list — they report many projects built 20–50% faster from setting it.

## Verify
`npx tsc --noEmit` no longer reports `Cannot find name` for Node/test globals; `npx tsc --showConfig` shows the `types` array.
