## Error

```text
Symlink [project]/node_modules is invalid, it points out of the filesystem root
```

## Symptom
`next build` / `next dev` with Turbopack exits immediately with:
```
- Symlink [project]/node_modules is invalid, it points out of the filesystem root
```
This happens when `node_modules` in the project is a symlink to another checkout's `node_modules` (common in git worktrees, scratch copies, or when several sibling apps share one install to save disk).

## Cause
Turbopack treats the project directory as its filesystem root and refuses to follow a symlink that resolves outside it.

## Fix
Give the project a real `node_modules` directory without paying for a full reinstall:
- Linux (same filesystem): hardlink tree
  ```bash
  cp -al ../other-app/node_modules ./node_modules
  ```
- macOS APFS: copy-on-write clone
  ```bash
  cp -c -R ../other-app/node_modules ./node_modules
  ```
- For a throwaway dev server in a worktree, `next dev --webpack` also works because webpack follows the symlink.

## Verify
After replacing the symlink with a hardlinked tree, builds and preview servers ran normally on the server; the APFS clone approach was used for a separate worktree build on macOS that then deployed successfully.

## Notes
A cloned/hardlinked tree can still contain relative symlinks (e.g. `.next/node_modules/sharp-<hash>`) that break when moved; re-point them after copying.
