## Symptom
A script that ran `brew tap vendor/tools && brew install sometool` (short name) fails on a machine with current Homebrew; `brew doctor` warns about untrusted non-official taps. CI setup scripts written for Homebrew 4/5 break.

## Cause
Homebrew **6.0.0 (2026-06-11)** introduced tap trust: taps contain arbitrary Ruby, so non-official taps must be explicitly trusted before Homebrew evaluates their code. Docs: "Commands that need to load an untrusted tap or item will fail until the relevant trust is granted." Official taps stay trusted. `HOMEBREW_NO_REQUIRE_TAP_TRUST=1` is deprecated and will be removed.

## Fix
Installing by fully qualified name trusts only that item:
```bash
brew install vendor/tools/sometool
brew install --cask vendor/tools/someapp
```
Short names after tapping need explicit trust:
```bash
brew tap vendor/tools
brew trust --formula vendor/tools/sometool   # or --cask / --command
brew install sometool
# whole tap (all current and future items):
brew trust vendor/tools
```
Trust the canonical formula name; aliases and renames do not carry trust. In a Brewfile use the `trusted:` option (see the brew bundle docs).

## Verify
`brew trust` lists the entry; `brew untrust` (no args) lists what is still untrusted; `brew doctor` no longer warns.
