## Error

```text
Error: Cannot find module '.prisma/client/default'
```

## Symptom
After switching to Prisma 7 / the `prisma-client` generator, the app crashes on start with:

```
Error: Cannot find module '.prisma/client/default'
Require stack:
- .../node_modules/@prisma/client/default.js
```
or the generator block is rejected because `output` is missing. Wrong assumption: the client is generated into `node_modules` and you `import { PrismaClient } from '@prisma/client'`.

## Cause
Prisma ORM 7.0.0 (2025-11-19) made the ESM `prisma-client` generator the default path forward (`prisma-client-js` is deprecated and slated for removal) and made `output` required — the client is no longer generated into `node_modules/.prisma/client`. `@prisma/client/default.js` still requires `.prisma/client/default`, which no longer exists, so importing from `@prisma/client` fails. (Users still on `prisma-client-js` with a custom `output` must also install `@prisma/client-runtime-utils`.)

## Fix
`schema.prisma` before:
```prisma
generator client {
  provider   = "prisma-client-js"
  engineType = "binary"
}
```
After:
```prisma
generator client {
  provider = "prisma-client"
  output   = "../src/generated/prisma"
}
```
Run `npx prisma generate`, then change every import (app code, seed scripts, tests, shared monorepo packages):
```ts
// before
import { PrismaClient, Prisma } from '@prisma/client'
// after (path relative to the importing file and your output)
import { PrismaClient, Prisma } from './generated/prisma/client'
```
Prisma 7 is ESM: set `"type": "module"` in package.json and in tsconfig use `"module": "ESNext"`, `"moduleResolution": "bundler"`, `"target": "ES2023"`. Minimums: Node 20.19.0, TypeScript 5.4.0. Add the output dir to `.gitignore` and run `prisma generate` in CI/build (postinstall no longer generates it).

## Verify
`grep -rn "from '@prisma/client'" src` returns nothing; the generated folder exists at the configured `output`; the app boots.
