## Error

```text
Invalid project directory provided, no such directory:
```

## Symptom
`npm run lint` with `"lint": "next lint"` fails on Next.js 16 with `Invalid project directory provided, no such directory: .../apps/web/lint`. The message never says the command is gone. Separately, `next build` no longer reports lint errors, and the `eslint: { ignoreDuringBuilds }` key in next.config does nothing.

## Cause
Next.js 16.0.0 (2025-10-21) removed the `next lint` command (deprecated in 15.5) and the `eslint` option in next.config. `next build` no longer runs linting. The CLI treats the unknown word `lint` as a project directory, which is why you get a path error. `@next/eslint-plugin-next` now defaults to ESLint flat config.

## Fix
Automated:
```bash
npx @next/codemod@canary next-lint-to-eslint-cli .
```
Manual. Before:
```json
{ "scripts": { "lint": "next lint" } }
```
After:
```json
{ "scripts": { "lint": "eslint ." } }
```
```bash
npm i -D eslint eslint-config-next
```
```js
// eslint.config.mjs (replaces .eslintrc.json)
import { defineConfig, globalIgnores } from 'eslint/config'
import nextVitals from 'eslint-config-next/core-web-vitals'
import nextTs from 'eslint-config-next/typescript'
export default defineConfig([
  ...nextVitals,
  ...nextTs,
  globalIgnores(['.next/**', 'out/**', 'build/**', 'next-env.d.ts']),
])
```
Delete the `eslint: {...}` block from next.config. If CI relied on `next build` to fail on lint errors, add an explicit `npm run lint` step. `eslint-config-next@16` requires ESLint 9 or later, and ESLint 10 drops `.eslintrc` support completely.

## Verify
`npx eslint .` runs and reports `@next/next/*` rules (for example add an `<img>` and see `@next/next/no-img-element`).
