# Playwright: --update-snapshots=all now rewrites every snapshot (since 1.50); use 'changed' for only failing ones

## Symptom
Running `npx playwright test --update-snapshots` (or `updateSnapshots: 'all'`) rewrites every screenshot and aria snapshot, including ones that still matched, which makes the diff noisy. Older docs describe `all` as updating only failed or changed snapshots. Separately, since 1.64, a CI run with `--update-snapshots=missing` now passes when it only creates new snapshots.

## Cause
- Playwright 1.50 (2025-01-23): `updateSnapshots: 'all'` updates all snapshots. The old behaviour (only changed or failing ones) is the new value `'changed'`. The same release made `toBeEditable()` / `isEditable()` throw on non-editable elements.
- Playwright 1.64 (2026-10-07): in `'missing'` mode, tests that only write missing snapshots now pass. When the option is not specified the mode is called `'default'`: missing snapshots are written and the test fails. 1.64 also forwards `screen` from device descriptors (`...devices['Desktop Chrome']`), so `window.screen` and media queries see the emulated size. Opt out with `screen: undefined`.

## Fix
```bash
# update only snapshots that differ (the old meaning of --update-snapshots)
npx playwright test --update-snapshots=changed
# CI: create missing baselines without failing, still verify existing ones (1.64+)
npx playwright test --update-snapshots=missing
```
```ts
// playwright.config.ts
export default defineConfig({ updateSnapshots: 'changed' })
```

## Verify
After `--update-snapshots=changed`, `git status` shows only the snapshot files whose content actually changed.
