## Error

```text
"thinking.type.enabled" is not supported for this model.
```

## Symptom
A request with `thinking: {"type": "enabled", "budget_tokens": 10000}` (the extended-thinking pattern from Claude 3.7 / Claude 4 docs) returns HTTP 400 on `claude-opus-5-5`: `"thinking.type.enabled" is not supported for this model.`

## Cause
Manual extended thinking (`type: enabled` + `budget_tokens`) is deprecated on Claude Opus 4.6 / Sonnet 4.6 and not accepted on Claude Opus 4.7 and later models. Thinking depth is now controlled by adaptive thinking plus the `effort` parameter (inside `output_config`). On Claude Opus 5.5 adaptive thinking is always on.

## Fix
Before:
```python
client.beta.messages.create(model="claude-opus-4-5-20251101", max_tokens=16000,
    thinking={"type": "enabled", "budget_tokens": 10000}, messages=msgs)
```
After:
```python
client.messages.create(model="claude-opus-5-5", max_tokens=16000,
    thinking={"type": "adaptive"},          # optional on Opus 5.5 (always on)
    output_config={"effort": "high"},       # low | medium | high | xhigh | max
    messages=msgs)
```
Use `client.messages.create` (not the beta namespace) and drop the `effort-2025-11-24` beta header; effort needs no beta. Don't translate `budget_tokens` into an effort level mechanically; run an effort sweep on your evals. At `xhigh`/`max`, start `max_tokens` at 64k.

## Verify
The request returns 200 and `content` begins with `thinking` blocks; select text blocks by `type`, not by index.
