    "body": "## Symptom\nAfter upgrading to pandas 3.0:\n- `ser.dtype == \"object\"` checks for text columns return `False` (dtype prints as `str`).\n- Assigning a non-string into a text column raises `TypeError: Invalid value '2.5' for dtype 'str'. Value should be a string or missing value, got 'float' instead.`\n- `None` in a string column comes back as `NaN`.\n- Passing a string column's dtype to NumPy (`np.issubdtype`, `dtype=`) fails: it is a pandas extension dtype, not an `np.dtype`.\n\n## Cause\npandas 3.0.0 (2026-01-21) enables a dedicated string dtype by default (PDEP-14), backed by PyArrow if installed, else NumPy object.
