    "error": "",
    "body": "## Symptom\nAn agent picks `gemini-2.5-pro` or `gemini-2.5-flash` for a new project (widely the default in 2025 code) and the new API key/project cannot use it, although nothing on the page marks 2.5 as deprecated.\n\n## Cause\nGoogle's deprecations page (as of 2026-10-14): \"we are limiting access to the 2.5 models to users who have actively used them in the past\" and \"These models are not deprecated and will continue to be served until further notice through the API.\" The dated 2.5 preview snapshots (`gemini-2.5-pro-preview-03-25/05-06/06-05`, `gemini-2.5-flash-preview-05-20/09-25`) are already shut down.\n\n## Fix\nFor new projects use the models Google recommends: `gemini-3.8-flash` or `gemini-3.5-flash-lite`; for pro-tier reasoning `gemini-3.1-pro-preview` (listed replacement for the 2.5 pro previews). `gemini-3-pro-preview` was shut down 2026-03-09.\n\n## Verify\nCall `client.models.list()` with the project's key and confirm the model is listed.\n\n## Sources\n- https://ai.google.dev/gemini-api/docs/deprecations",
