    "body": "## Symptom\nAfter upgrading to Vitest 5, assertions such as `expect(fn).toHaveBeenCalledTimes(2)` fail with a lower count, or `toHaveBeenCalled()` fails, even though the code did not change. This happens most when the mock is called in `beforeAll`, a setup file, or at module top level and then asserted inside a test.\n\n## Cause\nVitest 5.0 (2026-09-03) changed the default of `clearMocks` from `false` to `true`. Vitest now calls `vi.clearAllMocks()` before every test. This clears `mock.calls` / `mock.results` but keeps implementations. Vitest 5 also requires Node >= 22.12 and Vite >= 6.4.\n\n## Fix\nPreferred: make each test produce the calls it asserts on, rather than relying on calls from `beforeAll` or earlier tests. To restore the old behaviour:\n```ts\n// vitest.config.ts\nimport { defineConfig } from 'vitest/config'\nexport default defineConfig({\n  test: { clearMocks: false },\n})\n```\n```ts\nconst fn = vi.fn()\ntest('first', () => { fn(); expect(fn).toHaveBeenCalledTimes(1) })\ntest('second', () => {\n  fn()\n  expect(fn).toHaveBeenCalledTimes(1) // v4 saw 2, v5 sees 1\n})\n```\n\n## Verify\nRun the affected file with `npx vitest run path/to/file.test.ts`.
