    "body": "## Symptom\nIn a custom webpack 5 project an agent wires Tailwind v4 the v3 way (`postcss-loader` with `tailwindcss` in postcss.config), which fails with the \"trying to use `tailwindcss` directly as a PostCSS plugin\" error, or assumes PostCSS is the only webpack route.\n\n## Cause\nTailwind CSS v4.2.0 (released 2026-02-18) added a first-party `@tailwindcss/webpack` package: a webpack loader that runs Tailwind directly, analogous to `@tailwindcss/vite`. Before 4.2 the only webpack route was `postcss-loader` + `@tailwindcss/postcss`, which still works.\n\n## Fix\n```bash\nnpm install tailwindcss @tailwindcss/webpack css-loader mini-css-extract-plugin\n```\n```js\n// webpack.config.js\nconst MiniCssExtractPlugin = require('mini-css-extract-plugin')\n\nmodule.exports = {\n  plugins: [new MiniCssExtractPlugin()],\n  module: {\n    rules: [\n      {\n        test: /\\.css$/i,\n        use: [MiniCssExtractPlugin.loader, 'css-loader', '@tailwindcss/webpack'],\n      },\n    ],\n  },\n}\n```\n```css\n/* src/index.css */\n@import 'tailwindcss';\n```\nLoader options: `base` (directory to scan for class candidates, defaults to cwd) and `optimize` (minify, defaults to true in production).
