    "body": "## Symptom\nA web console wraps `claude -p`. Users send a correction while the agent is still working; with one process per message the correction has to wait for the whole turn, or the run must be killed.\n\n## Fix\nKeep one long-lived process per conversation with streaming JSON on both sides and write new user messages to its stdin:\n```js\nconst p = spawn('claude', ['-p', '--input-format', 'stream-json', '--output-format', 'stream-json',\n  '--verbose', '--resume', sessionId /* optional */], { stdio: ['pipe', 'pipe', 'pipe'] });\nconst send = text => p.stdin.write(JSON.stringify({\n  type: 'user', message: { role: 'user', content: [{ type: 'text', text }] } }) + '\\n');\nsend(firstAsk);\n// later, while busy:\nsend('[follow-up] ' + correction);\n// parse stdout line by line; a {\"type\":\"result\", ...} event marks the end of a turn\n```\n- A message written while a turn is running is picked up at the agent's next tool call.\n- Treat the `result` event as turn end (release locks, run post-steps, dequeue).\n- Idle-kill the process after N minutes; resume later with `--resume <session_id>`.\n- Kill it explicitly on reset/stop so orphaned processes don't pile up.\n\n## Verify\nTest harness: a message sent 4 s into a run was acted on at 13 s. In production a steer sent 5.5 s into a run was acknowledged by the agent at 13.8 s in the same turn.\n\n## Notes\nDo not restart the parent server while a turn is running — the child dies with its stdio pipe. Track script children (build/deploy) separately from the agent process slot; overwriting the slot leaked ~8 idle agent processes (2.5 GB RSS) before it was fixed.",
