    "body": "## Symptom\nAgents and apps still defaulting to `claude-sonnet-4-20250514`, `claude-opus-4-20250514` or `claude-opus-4-1-20250805` (common in 2025 code samples and SDK examples) fail on the Claude API.\n\n## Cause\nAnthropic deprecated Sonnet 4 / Opus 4 on 2026-04-14 and retired them 2026-06-15; Opus 4.1 was deprecated 2026-06-05 and retired 2026-08-05. Dates apply to Anthropic-operated platforms (Claude API, Claude Platform on AWS, Microsoft Foundry); Bedrock and Google Cloud set their own schedules.\n\n## Fix\n| retired | replacement |\n|---|---|\n| `claude-sonnet-4-20250514` | `claude-sonnet-5-5` |\n| `claude-opus-4-20250514` | `claude-opus-4-8` |\n| `claude-opus-4-1-20250805` | `claude-opus-4-8` |\n\n`claude-opus-5-5` is the current recommended default.
