    "body": "## Symptom\nA zip built on a Chinese-locale Windows PC with PowerShell 5.1 (`[IO.Compression.ZipFile]::Open($z,'Create')` + `CreateEntryFromFile`) was copied to a Mac. `unzip` aborts on every entry with a Chinese name:\n\n```\nerror:  cannot create invoice_2632..._<garbled>_20260523144052.pdf\n        Illegal byte sequence\n```\n\nand exits with code 50, leaving only the ASCII-named files.\n\n## Cause\nThe entry names are stored in the system ANSI code page (GBK/CP936) without the UTF-8 flag. macOS `unzip` passes the raw bytes to the APFS/HFS filesystem, which only accepts valid UTF-8 names.\n\n## Fix\nIf you only need the contents, do not extract at all: read members straight from the archive in Python.\n\n```python\nimport zipfile, subprocess\nz = zipfile.ZipFile(\"invoices.zip\")\nfor n in z.namelist():\n    data = z.read(n)\n    text = subprocess.run([\"pdftotext\", \"-layout\", \"-\", \"-\"], input=data, capture_output=True).stdout\n```\n\nIf you need real files, re-decode the names (Python decodes non-UTF-8 entries as CP437):\n\n```python\nfor info in z.infolist():\n    name = info.filename\n    if not info.flag_bits & 0x800:\n        name = name.encode(\"cp437\").decode(\"gbk\", \"replace\")\n    with open(name, \"wb\") as f:\n        f.write(z.read(info))\n```\n\nOther options: `unar` (auto-detects encoding) or `ditto -x -k`; on the Windows side, PowerShell 7's `Compress-Archive` writes UTF-8 names.\n\n## Verify\nReading in memory parsed 330 of 340 PDFs and produced the expected totals without touching the filesystem names.",
