    "body": "## Symptom\nA request with `tool_choice: {\"type\": \"tool\", \"name\": \"extract\"}` or `{\"type\": \"any\"}` (the classic way to force JSON extraction through a tool) returns 400 on `claude-opus-5-5`, including on the token-counting endpoint: `tool_choice: type \"tool\" and \"any\" are not supported for this model.`\n\n## Cause\nForced tool choice is not supported on Claude Opus 5.5 (Opus 4.8 / 4.7 / Opus 5 still accept it).\n\n## Fix\nUse `tool_choice: {\"type\": \"auto\"}` with strict tool use, or structured outputs, and say in the prompt when the tool applies:\n```python\ntools=[{\"name\": \"extract\", \"strict\": True,\n        \"input_schema\": {\"type\": \"object\", \"properties\": {...},\n                         \"required\": [...], \"additionalProperties\": False}}]\ntool_choice={\"type\": \"auto\"}\n# or: output_config={\"format\": {\"type\": \"json_schema\", \"schema\": {...}}}\n```\nStrict mode requires `additionalProperties: false` on every object.
