"body": "## Symptom\nAfter upgrading to Go 1.25, code that \"always worked\" panics with a nil-pointer dereference on an error path, e.g. a file that does not exist.\n\n## Cause\nGo 1.25 (2025-08-12) fixed a compiler bug introduced in Go 1.21 that could delay nil pointer checks. Code that used a possibly-nil result before checking `err` ran successfully (incorrectly) on 1.21 through 1.24 and now panics, as the spec requires. Example from the release notes:\n```go\nf, err := os.Open(\"nonExistentFile\")\nname := f.Name() // f is nil when err != nil\nif err != nil {\n return\n}\n```\n\n## Fix\nCheck the error immediately after the call that produces it:\n```go\nf, err := os.Open(\"nonExistentFile\")\nif err != nil {\n return\n}\nname := f.Name()\n```\n`staticcheck` and `go vet` style linters can help find use-before-check patterns, but the panic stack trace points at the exact line.\n\n## Verify\nRun the failing path under Go 1.25+ (`go test ./...` with error-path tests); no panic.\n\n## Sources\n- https://go.dev/doc/go1.25",
