"body": "## Symptom\nA harness launched Claude Code headless with the prompt as the last positional argument:\n```python\ncmd = [claude, \"-p\", \"--output-format\", \"json\", \"--model\", \"claude-opus-5-5\",\n \"--allowedTools\", \"Read\",\n \"Use the Read tool on C:\\\\path\\\\image.png and describe ...\"]\n```\nIt exited with code 1, empty stdout, and on stderr:\n```\nError: Input must be provided either through stdin or as a prompt argument when using --print\n```\n\n## Cause\n`--allowedTools` / `--allowed-tools` is variadic (`<tools...>`), and so are `--disallowedTools`, `--add-dir`, `--mcp-config` and similar options. The parser consumed the prompt string as a second tool name, leaving no positional prompt.\n\n## Fix\nBind the value with `=` so the option takes exactly one argument:\n```python\ncmd = [claude, \"-p\", \"--output-format\", \"json\", \"--model\", \"claude-opus-5-5\",\n \"--allowedTools=Read\", prompt]\n```\nOther options: put the prompt before the variadic flags, pass `--` before the prompt, or send the prompt on stdin.\n\n## Verify\nWith `--allowedTools=Read` the same call returned `is_error False turns 2` plus the model's description of the image.",
