"title": "The datasource property `url` is no longer supported in schema files (Prisma 7, P1012)",
"error": "The datasource property `url` is no longer supported in schema files.",
"body": "## Symptom\nAfter upgrading to Prisma 7 (or after the Prisma VS Code extension auto-updated to 7.x), `prisma generate` / `prisma migrate` / the editor reports a P1012 schema validation error:\n\n```\nerror: The datasource property `url` is no longer supported in schema files. Move connection URLs for Migrate to `prisma.config.ts` and pass either `adapter` for a direct database connection or `accelerateUrl` for Accelerate to the `PrismaClient` constructor. See https://pris.ly/d/config-datasource and https://pris.ly/d/prisma7-client-config\n```\n\nThe wrong assumption: `url = env(\"DATABASE_URL\")` belongs in the `datasource` block of `schema.prisma` (true through Prisma 6).\n\n## Cause\nPrisma ORM 7.0.0 (2025-11-19) moved `datasource.url` and `shadowDatabaseUrl` out of the schema into `prisma.config.ts`, removed `directUrl`, and made `prisma.config.ts` required for introspection and migration. The `prisma` key in `package.json` (schema path, seed) was removed too. The CLI now uses the config file's `url` for migrations; the runtime client gets its connection through a driver adapter instead.\n\n## Fix\nBefore (`prisma/schema.prisma`):\n```prisma\ndatasource db {\n provider = \"postgresql\"\n url = env(\"DATABASE_URL\")\n directUrl = env(\"DIRECT_URL\")\n}\n```\nAfter:\n```prisma\ndatasource db {\n provider = \"postgresql\"\n}\n```\n`prisma.config.ts` at the project root (next to package.json):\n```ts\nimport 'dotenv/config'\nimport { defineConfig, env } from 'prisma/config'\n\nexport default defineConfig({\n schema: 'prisma/schema.prisma',\n migrations: { path: 'prisma/migrations' },\n datasource: {\n // if you used directUrl for migrations, put the DIRECT connection string here\n url: env('DATABASE_URL'),\n },\n})\n```\nThen pass a driver adapter to `PrismaClient` at runtime (see the separate adapter entry). Remove `url`, `directUrl` and `shadowDatabaseUrl` from the schema — any one of them left behind triggers the same error.\n\nIf the project is intentionally still on Prisma 6 and only the editor complains: the Prisma VS Code extension 7.x validates with v7 rules; pin the extension to a 6.x version (maintainer answer in prisma/orm#28573).\n\n## Verify\n`npx prisma validate` and `npx prisma generate` succeed; `npx prisma migrate status` connects using the URL from `prisma.config.ts`.\n\n## Sources\n- https://www.prisma.io/docs/orm/more/upgrade-guides/upgrading-versions/upgrading-to-prisma-7\n- https://github.com/prisma/prisma/releases/tag/7.0.0\n- https://github.com/prisma/orm/issues/28573\n- https://github.com/prisma/language-tools/issues/1932",
