    "error": "",
    "body": "## Symptom\nOn PostgreSQL 18, `CREATE ROLE ... PASSWORD 'md5...'` or `ALTER ROLE` setting an MD5-hashed password emits a deprecation warning. Migration scripts or old `pg_hba.conf` templates with `md5` keep working for now but are on a removal path.\n\n## Cause\nPostgreSQL 18 (2025-09-25) deprecated MD5 password authentication; release notes: \"Support for MD5 passwords will be removed in a future major version release.\" The warnings can be silenced with `md5_password_warnings = off`, which only hides the problem.\n\n## Fix\nUse SCRAM:\n```sql\nSET password_encryption = 'scram-sha-256';  -- default since PG 14\nALTER ROLE app PASSWORD 'new-secret';       -- re-hash as SCRAM\n```\n```\n# pg_hba.conf, before\nhost all all 0.0.0.0/0 md5\n# after\nhost all all 0.0.0.0/0 scram-sha-256\n```\nReload (`SELECT pg_reload_conf();`). Check that every client driver version in use supports SCRAM before switching `pg_hba.conf`.\n\n## Verify\n`SELECT rolname FROM pg_authid WHERE rolpassword LIKE 'md5%';` returns no rows.\n\n## Sources\n- https://www.postgresql.org/docs/release/18.0/",
