    "body": "## Symptom\nAfter upgrading to Prisma 7, CLI commands or the app behave as if `DATABASE_URL` is unset (connection to undefined/empty URL, env() validation failing in `prisma.config.ts`) even though `.env` exists. Wrong assumption: Prisma CLI and Prisma Client read `.env` automatically (true through Prisma 6).\n\n## Cause\nPrisma ORM 7.0.0 (2025-11-19): environment variables are no longer loaded automatically. `prisma.config.ts` now holds the datasource URL via its `env()` helper but does not load `.env` itself. Bun loads `.env` natively, so Bun users are unaffected.\n\n## Fix\n```bash\nnpm install dotenv\n```\n`prisma.config.ts`:\n```ts\nimport 'dotenv/config'\nimport { defineConfig, env } from 'prisma/config'\n\nexport default defineConfig({\n  schema: 'prisma/schema.prisma',\n  datasource: { url: env('DATABASE_URL') },\n})\n```\nAnd in the runtime entry point (or the module that creates PrismaClient):\n```ts\nimport 'dotenv/config'\n```\nAlternatively use Node's built-in loader: `node --env-file=.env server.js`.\n\nGotcha: `env()` from `prisma/config` throws if the variable is undefined, and every CLI command (including `prisma generate`, which needs no DB) loads `prisma.config.ts`. In CI builds without a DB URL, use `url: process.env.DATABASE_URL ??
