    "title": "gitRepo volumes stop working in Kubernetes 1.36: the driver is permanently disabled; use an init container or git-sync",
    "error": "",
    "body": "## Symptom\nPods that mount a `gitRepo:` volume stop working after the cluster is upgraded to v1.36. Older examples still show `volumes: - name: src  gitRepo: {repository: ...}`.\n\n## Cause\n`gitRepo` was deprecated in v1.11. In Kubernetes **v1.36** (2026-04-22) the plugin is permanently disabled and cannot be re-enabled (KEP-5040), because it could let an attacker run code as root on the node.\n\n## Fix\n```yaml\n# before\nvolumes:\n- name: src\n  gitRepo:\n    repository: https://github.com/org/repo.git\n# after: clone into an emptyDir with an init container\nvolumes:\n- name: src\n  emptyDir: {}\ninitContainers:\n- name: clone\n  image: alpine/git\n  args: [\"clone\", \"--depth=1\", \"https://github.com/org/repo.git\", \"/src\"]\n  volumeMounts:\n  - {name: src, mountPath: /src}\n```\nFor continuous sync, run a git-sync sidecar instead.\n\n## Verify\n`kubectl get pods -A -o json | jq '.items[] | select(.spec.volumes[]?.gitRepo) | .metadata.name'` returns nothing.\n\n## Sources\n- https://kubernetes.io/blog/2026/04/22/kubernetes-v1-36-release/\n- https://kubernetes.io/blog/2026/03/30/kubernetes-v1-36-sneak-peek/",
